Citadel Clerics, Vicious Voltiguers, and Tiny Tables

Hi,

I've painted a five more old Citadel Clerics.    It's amazing how much easier larger 28m fantasy models are to paint than Napoleonics.   The one below is reading the adventures of Saint Attila.

O LORD!, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy. And the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and large chu...

Speaking of Nappies, here are six French Voltiguers.  I bought them used and painted over previous work.  I love used minis, no priming.  I think they are Front Rank Figurines, but I'm not sure as every Front Rank Colpack wearing model I've seen have longer plumes and not tiny little pom poms.

They are based on little home-made magnet movement trays, so they can be removed for skirmish games.  Two of them are missing their muskets.  I'll have to find some.  Their open hands make me want to glue incorrect objects in them.  Perhaps I'll make them pull rickshaws or a chariot.

Here's another little table for a future zombie game, for when zombies attack a miniature wargame convention.  It's the first table not copied from an Enfilade 2012 game; I saw it on the Camino Real Wargamers Yahoo site; and it looked easy to recreate, but as you can see it turned out more like boring poop.

Zombies aren't particularly concerned with my unimaginative terrain.
Here's another non-Enfilade table, just an imaginary section of castle wall with woods encroaching dangerously so.  There's no legs, because table leg production is dull work and my quality control on table leg length is terrible.  I will mass produce table legs, when I have enough table tops to make it worth my effort.  Next Enfilades table I plan on plagiarizing are Chris Craft's Vietnam game and Lloyd Bowler's Viking Run.

I'm almost finished with a box of Perry Plastic Prussians painted as Lutzow's Freikorps.  They only need some highlighting, touch-ups, basing, and a clear coat.

Old Citadels, LOTR Minis, Zombie Survivors, and a Couple Dragoons

Hi,

I've recently finished painting a few random models that had sitting at the back of the painting cue for ages.

These are three old Citadel Clerics.  I don't believe Warhammer Fantasy uses clerics anymore, but one could probably mix them in with a Flagellant unit.

Look how big our hands are!

Here's three random LOTR models.  I painted the human armor three times, but couldn't make it look like the movie.  At least they're painted, I'll probably never use them for anything.

Here's two humans that I'm calling survivors for zombie gaming.  The one on the left is a mechanic from Prince August's sci-fi line.  The picture came out bad; that dog turd in the middle of his face is a cigar and a poorly painted/badly sculpted mustache.

The mad scientist looking fellow is probably from Grenadier's Call of Cthulhu line.  Or maybe RAFM, I can't remember and I'm not ripping him off the base to check.

It's Ronald McDonald's angry older brother.
I painted up four more dismounted Perry plastic French Dragoons.

Now there is finally enough for a small Black Powder or Sharpes Practice unit.
Where the F did our horses go?

More Mini Mini Tables

Hi,

I've made a few more mini mini tables.  The one on the left is a rough copy of what I believe was a Star Fleet Battles game, but I couldn't find it on the Enfilade events listing.

Zombies don't enjoy the record keeping in games like Star Fleet Battles or Battletech.
The middle board is supposed to be Mike Garcia's "Dino Hunt" game.  I forgot to glue on the cave and attempts at green stuffing dinosaurs resulted in fail.

The right board is a naval battle.  Gray spots on a blue table seemed really dull, so I set one "ship" on fire and attempted at some splashes to simulate rounds falling short of the target.

Two More Tiny Tables

Hi,

I finished up two more tiny tables and hope to finish three or four more tonight.  The plan is for 24 in total, then I'll start on vendor tables.   After that I'll find out what ASL is and what the ASL players do in their secret Enfilade wing.  Then the zombies attack.

The one on the left is a set of DBA boards for the DBA tournament at every convention.  They are actually way too big, but making them to scale would have been very difficult.  I've included one of those weird banded magic wands that DBA players carry around.  I think the multicolored wand is to scare away new players, but I'm just a muggle and can't be sure.

The table on the right is a poor rendition of Bruce Meyer's very neat "Aim True Lads, that's a Truck Full of Vodka" table.   Had to stick some cardboard under two legs as the table was too wobbly, because I was drinking vodka when making it.  Well coffee with vodka, not a particularly good choice.

.02 mm Scale Wargames Tables

Hi,

When you play .02 mm scale wargames, you don't need very big tables.

When I was at Enfilade, between games I would go over my zombie escape plan just in case zombies attacked the Red Lion Hotel.  Later driving home, I thought it would be alot of fun to put on a zombie game where the zombies are attacking Enfilade!  How would so many table top generals deal with an actual zombie horde?  Most likely we'd all get eaten.

I just need some hotel/convention floor plans to make a big table covered with tiny tables.  Old men vs. Zombies.  Here's the first two tables.  On the left is a very miniature version of a friend Dean's "Something like Salamanca" Black Powder game (http://wabcorner.blogspot.com/).  On the right is a miniature version of a WWI trench table I made.  I won a prize for the real table, best in period, I'm not sure if that period was for best WWI terrain or best Saturday night terrain.

Zombies gather to play a game or two of "Humans"

Zombies enjoy excessive dice rolling and predictable "I go, you go" initiative systems.

I'm going to make miniature versions of all the Enfilade games that I can find pictures of.  Though, I won't get to put the game on at Enfilade 2013 as I should be moving to Albuquerque very soon.

Random Enfilade 2012 WAB Tournament Pictures

The Enfilade 2012 Convention held in Olympia, WA, was terrific.  There were hundreds of great miniatures games played.  If you had an opportunity to attend and did not go, you made a terrible mistake.

One of my personal favorite events was the big Warhammer Ancient Battles Tournament managed by Pat Lowinger from the great podcast "The Historical Wargames Podcast"  (http://www.historicalwargames.org) and sponsored by Brookhurst Hobbies (http://www.brookhursthobbies.com/).  Here are a few pics I took during games.

I did manage to take pictures of four of the non-WAB games.  A much better photographer put a couple hundred photos up on the NHMGS yahoo group page.

A cool looking game with some neat terrain, Blackpowder maybe?, can't make out the roster on the table.

A "The Great War" game I ran, with the help of Mark Worthington and his best painted Turks I've ever seen.

Here's a game I didn't have a chance to sign up for.  I wish I had, the description was:
Rescue in the Khyber Pass, 1891 by Jeffrey Wilbanks using "The Sword and the Flame" rules.  Pathan tribesmen are holding an Indian princess hostage in Abdul Khan's mountain fortress.  A British NWF field force has been dispatched to punish the Khan and safely retrieve the princess.

Here's a Regimental Fire and Fury game.  I don't know who ran it because I couldn't find it in the events listing.  The minis were very well done.

The artist sculpted overcoats onto his British models.  Those are Victrix British plastic artillery crew with green stuff coats.

I can only imagine how long it took to prepare and paint these minis.

Black Powder, WAB, a Bridge, and some PPPPP (Plastic Perry Prussian Painting Progress)

Hello Baconfatblog aficionados,

Yesterday I participated in a couple games with some of wargames club at the friendly local game shop, Game Matrix.

First was a simple pitched battle using Black Powder.  French vs. Prussian, no objective, 2 brigades each, but on a rather wide table, 8'x8'.

French:  Hussars, Dragoons, 3 regular infantry, 1 large infantry, 2 12 pdr batteries.
Prussians:  2 Cuirassiers, 3 regular infantry, 1 regular landwehr, 1 small Jaeger, 1 6 pdr battery

Prussians go first, the roll great command rolls and  run across the table to crush the bootlickers of the despot Bonaparte.  Second turn they blunder all over themselves, one brigade provides the skirmishers an attack column screen.

Luckily the French have decided to basically sit around and ignore their orders for several turns.

We had to quit due to time, but it was a stalemate with both sides standing still pretty much shooting the hell out of each other.  The French had a few units destroyed and almost every unit on the table was shaken or nearly so.

The highlight of my day was a battle versus the current leader in our Dark Ages WAB campaign.

Dean's Thematic Byzantine Army with only four elite units has been slaughtering his opponents so often that his general earned a 10 percent point allotment for every battle.

My plan was to kill his general at all cost.

Thematic (left):  2200 pts, 2 elite cavalry, 2 combined bow/dart throwing/shieldwall supermen infantry
Justinian (right):  2K pts, Bucellari, cavalry, 2 dart throwing shieldwalls, five skirmisher units.

I charged the heavy cav with the Thematic general with my two cav units.

My Bucellari take 70 percent casualties, but passed their break test.  My regular cav win their combat, force the general's unit to take a break, he fails, runs off the table.  I pursue and run off the table as well.  The general is dead.

Thematic cavalry about to charge into a little shieldwall unit and be destroyed.  20 crap foot soldiers shouldn't be able to defeat 12 heavy cavalry

My cavalry eventually returned and missile fire whittled  the two remaining infantry units to easily manageable numbers and the game was called.

Here's a prepainted bridge I found a the local craft store Michaels.  With a 40% off coupon it only cost $5.

Here's a look at my messy painting table.  I've been making a dent in my lead/plastic piles.  In the cue are Prussian Lutzow's Freikorp infantry, 2 units of landwehr cavalry, some French Dragoons, medieval crossbowmen, and some random bits of fantasy/sci-fi/WW1.

Perry plastic Prussian fusiliers about to get their bases painted and flocked.

Thanks for looking.
