Gameday 2014

Hello,

I didn't get a chance to post any painted mini picks this, but I did attend one of the two local miniature conventions, Gameday.  Here are a few pictures from some of the games a friend took.

A Darkest Africa game from the master of scenario design Dave.

A 15mm Napoleonics game with lots of well painted eye candy.

A medieval Japanese skirmish game with an incredible selection of buildings.

Part of a large WW2 aircraft battle, with amazing models

A well designed Sword and the Flame that had the players cheering.
A suprise for the players, zombies unexpectadly appear.
A pulp action adventure with an exciting prison break.
A really large sea battle, with untold quantities of ships.

A couple scenes from the biggest Flames of War game ever.

I used my trench table for the last time.
You can't tell but the burnign smoke clouds have flickering tea lights inside, to make them look like they're really burning.

Till Sunday, when I hope to have miniatures to show you.

Voltigeurs, Heritage Rebasing, and the IG Steals a Clone Speeder

Hello Dearest Humans,

Today I have more minis painted.  When a couple local gamers decided to finally try Sharp Practice, I realized I did not have very many single based French.  We needed French, so I painted some.

First are some plastic Perry voltigeurs.  They were a pleasure to paint.

Here are some Front Rank (I think) voltigeurs.  They're repainted used minis.  Some are still on round bases, because I couldn't pry them all off they're coins without breaking them.   I know because I'll because I'm having having a funeral/burial in the back yard tonight for the guys that died during the transfer.

I love repainting other peoples minis; it's as if the primer is my painting guide.  I did not repaint these used Heritage minis.  I was happy with just getting them off their huge washers (seen below).  I prefer square bases, as they're easier to form up into tighter units and they take up less shelf space.
They haven't eaten in awhile.  The guy in the middle is even delirious, thinking he is carrying a flag.

Highlight of the post.

A couple light French troops from Foundry.  I don't know why I painted them, they're the only two I have.

Here's the comparison pic that the world has been clamoring for.  Front Rank (once again probably), Perry, Heritage.

While painting and re-basing French, I was distracted by something shiny.   When I awoke from my wandering, I realized that I had painted a GW flagellant.  I think he's actually for the Mordhiem game, but he'll fit in just fine with the rest of my crazed religious zealots.
The eye paint is bad, he's got cat eyes.
Here is a Infantry Support Platform speeder my Imperial Guard models stole from the Empire.  After beheading the previous soulless owners (clones) the Imperial Guard motor pool guys applied a quick paint job to hide the theft.

Zoom

Here's what it use to look like, complete with bent gun barrels.
I stole this picture off Google Images

Here's a picture comparing it to other speeders.  I don't know why I didn't use guard model head with eye protection.  They're going to have a hard time seeing if they drive very fast.  I will keep them on a shelf separate from the Guard Ground Safety Monitor or I'll probably have to fill out some hazard identification reports.
Space Marines, Stolen ISP Speeder, Ancient Imperial Army Speeder

Here's a picture of their rear ends.

How do these stupid things land?

Till next time, I have no idea what I'll paint.

Burgundian Halberds, Tanks, and In the Heart of Africa Game

 Hello Fine Viewer,

I didn't get a whole lot done over the last two weeks.  Just eight old Grenadier miniatures, which I've painted up to match my Perry plastic Burgundians.

Here they are looking at a wall

Here's one standing next to a Perry plastic handgunner.  The Grenadier models will fit in fine.

Here they are standing in bunch, with two guys painted earlier.  I really don't appreciate the sculptor making two of them left handed; it makes the group look disorganized.

Here's a couple armored vehicles from Games Workshop.  The one on the left is a Leman Russ and the one on the right is an old Rhino APC from the 1990's.

After apparently splashing red paint all over the damned place, I tried to use the hair spray technique to make paint scratches on the mufflers.  It took the red paint off perfectly, but it also took the rust colored paint underneath the hair spray off perfectly as well.  I don't know what I did wrong.

Here's a sneak preview of  a model I have on the painting table.  Ignore the guy with the mohawk.  Don't get excited though, I'm not doing very good on it.

Now on to the Heart of Africa bloodshed.

The scenario:  White men, some soldiers and a baggage train are running from a force of valiant Arab slavers, Askari, and native warriors.  Those fleeing must get the baggage to the relative safety of the mighty dice cup just past the masking tape line.

Those chasing must catch all the baggage; or kill 50% of the soldiers and capture at least one of the four baggage handler stands.

We forgot trees and the painted baggage crews.

I blame my fellow team mate's dice for us not winning.  Our plan was perfect, kill soldiers and capture baggage.

Till next time my dear internet friends, when I hope to have more than a few models for you.  Perhaps Burgundian archers, female zombie survivors, French nappies, an OOP Citadel robot, or even possibly a Star Wars land speeder converted to match my GW Imperial Guard models.

Or I'll rebase some ancient nappy models and the post will be somewhat less exciting.

Big Trouble Jack Burton, Ash, Jason Vorhees, and Daryl Dixon.

Hello Discerning Blog Viewer,

First today are some Wargames Factory Survivors.  The multipart plastics allow you numerous options for personalizing your survivors.  Here's my attempt at recreating Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China, Jason Vorhees, Ash Williams from the original Evil Dead movies, and a poor attempt at Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead.  They're part of my zombie fighting Dream Team!
Jack, Jason, Ash, and Daryl preparing to take a bite out of the zombie horde
Jack and Ash have stupid poses; I was trying to make them stand similar to their movie poster poses, but it just looks awkward.   I've made the Shaun of the Dead guys and new Evil Dead Mia character, just no paint yet.

Jason chopping up zombies and humans.  His mask obscures his vision making everyone look like a zombie.

Topless zombies don't stand a chance against Jason Vorhees.
Jason survival rule number 1:  Never take off your shirt

Here are a couple Reaper minis:  Max Decker Private Eye and Oddjob, a James Bond villian, who throws his hat around.     Oddjob's paintjob was destroyed by a varnish clouding disaster.  He really looks terrible, kind of like lead rot.
Watch out Max!  He's got a hat!!!

Here's a couple WW1 Germans;  the first two are Great War Games (I think) and the chap laying down with a cloudy varnish coat is Old Glory.  I'm pretending I meant to make him dusty looking.

The guy in the middle has some sort of knit cap under his helmet.

A beat up oven and some garden gnomes.  The gnomes will be characters in the local Travelocity campaign games.
The oven is quite small, more of a RV oven.  The gnomes are not huge.

The delightful garden gnomes are Zombie Plague miniatures.  I think the evil genius Roebeast sculpts some of the best zombie miniatures available.  You can buy your own by going to his terrific blog "Roebeast's Magical House of Sunshine"  http://roebeast.blogspot.com/

Must find and kill that damned Gieco Pig!

Lastly, I've finished another 24" x 24" piece of urban rubble.  I'm trying to create a 10' x 4' table by October, for the Battle in the Bosque convention.   More details will be added if I get the remaining half of the table done this far.

Old Warzone minis clearing the rubble of a space midget infestation.  I don't know why but I think I must have painted 40 or so of those 40K space hobbits.

Till next time, when I should have some Grenadier halberdiers done.

Flock of Landspeeders

Hello,

I did manage to finish painting five landspeeders this week.   The camo colors are Vallejo zombie flesh and cheap craft store dark grey.

A rather stupid vehicle, the landspeeder, there appears to be no way to land or park it safely.
The speeder in the middle is missing a door, so I tried to make it look blown off with accompanying paint scratches.

They're missing pieces here and there, I pretend that gives them more character.    Two have flamers and multi-meltas, one has only a multi-melta, one has a heavy bolter, and one only the flamer.  Can't really complain about cheap models.  I prefer to buy all my Games Workshop kit used, because it's usually at least 50% cheaper.  I don't like to strip models either; another guy's paintjob is my primer.

One piece of advice for anyone, who has never painted a landspeeder, paint the interior before adding the little pilots.  It was almost unfun painting the little cockpit buttons, controls, and lights with a big stupid space marine in the way.

Till next time, when I could have some some medieval archers, halbidiers, or random sci-fi minis.

Perry Plastic Prussians, Some Couches, a RAFM Cthulhu Investigator, Maria, a Fat Guy, and 50,000 hits!

Afternoon Delightful Viewer,

Today I've finished a unit of Prussian Musketeers.  They're base on 20mm x 40mm metal bases, because that's what I had on hand.

They don't look glossy in person.  They've got multiple matte finishes.  The light just reflects off of the Prussian Blue and Black Grey.

The plastic Perry Prussians are a great deal.  I had bought two boxes and the Perry metal Fusilier conversion kit.  This enabled me to create three 24-man units (Musketeers, Fusiliers, third painted as Freikorps) and a twelve man unit of Jagers.  There's still twelve models left to paint; I may give them green stuff mustaches and call them Grenadiers.

Left to right: Musketeers, Fusiliers, Freikorps, Jaegers

Here's a RAFM investigator, what I believe is a Reaper model that appears to be Maria from the 1927 Metropolis film, and a fat guy with a sword.  I can't remember the guy's manufacturer, but I believe Megaminis now sell him.  I think he's a baggage cart handler.

Look, some new couches and a chair.  Sculpted by my very own child slave labor.

I've also managed to make a little progress on a rubble city table.  I threw some 40K toys on it for perspective.  I hope to finish it in time for an upcoming Gameday, perhaps using 5150 or FUBAR sci-fi rules.  40K wouldn't work on this table very well.  Those little Eldar models in the top of one of the buildings wouldn't be able to shoot anyone, as their weapons range won't reach the couple feet down to the ground.

I hit 50,000 hits this week, but the statistics tab said over 49,500 of them were accidental and immediately regretted.

Till next time, when I hope to have a pack of Space Marine Land Speeders for you.

Love,
Baconfat
