Union Station History Museum

Hello,

I started this post two years ago and forgot to finish it.  It's in a museum in Tacoma Union Station.  There's a very nice (and giant) train display.

Roman Archers, Empire Swordsmen, and some 40K Stuff

Most Treasured Reader,

Having finished painting a number of models to the looks good from far away standard, I thought I'd post some pictures for your mediocre miniature viewing pleasure.

First up are some old 25mm Ral Partha Romans.  I painted their man dresses two shades to give them some variety.  Ral Partha and RAFM weren't known for their wide variety of poses.  You can probably still buy these models from Iron Wind Metals.

Next are five GW empire swordsmen.  They're older metal out of production models from the late 80's or early 90's.  They have Fireforge brand shields, because I don't like the old GW shields.

Here's a few more models.  On the left is what I seem to remember as a gollem.  It's from the D&D Chainmail game when the metals were still metal and not pre-painted plastic garbage.  Next is a out of production metal 40K Eldar Dreadnaught; the bricks on the base are carved out of styrofoam.  On the right is Imperial Guard Cadian Sergeant or officer.

Lastly are some of the newer plastic chaos cultists.  I only bought a few out of the FLGS's bits bin.  I'm glad because these are really stupid models with a high percentage of left handed cultists.  I wonder if lefties (or Satan's children) are more susceptible to lecherous callings of chaos.

cartoony chaos crapiness

How do chaos cultists keep cool in the heat of battle?  Simple, they go shirtless or wear air conditioners on their back.

Oh and I just got some Khurasan brand 28mm Federal Infantry in the mail and was surprised by how nice they are.  They're sculpted with much more realistically than most popular 28mm miniatures.  I hope to start painting them tonight.

Till next time!

Perry Plastic Pikemen, Cultist, Eldar Dreadnoughts, Imperial Fist, IG, Rogue Trader, Terrain Bits, and a Zed

Hello Dearest Viewer,

I didn't blog any in October, but I did do some painting.  First up is a 16 man batch of Perry plastic mercenaries.  They're painted up as Burgundians.

more of a blob than a block
Next are some old out of production metal Eldar dreadnaughts.  I tried to paint them up in the style of the original Rogue Trader book, without the tiger striping.  They really didn't come out very nice due to a severe lack of detail.  The white one hidden in the back of the pack was supposed to look dirty and old, but looks about as exciting as a dried out cat turd.
slow moving dreadnoughts wandering in a very uninspired fashion

The other five or six I was working on will probably be returned to the storage ship until I get some inspiration.

This one stepped on a Wargames Factory Zombie.

Here is a smattering of terrain bits including a bed where someone had a rude awakening and a Cthulhu style pillar.

Ooh how exciting....a barrel

Some 40K pieces:  3 old Imperial Guardsman painted as Necromundia Spiders, a test paint job of an Imperial Fist (the group of marines being slaughtered on the Rogue Trader cover), and 3 servitors with arms off Mechwarrior models.

Here's a repainted Wizkids D&D wizard painted to look like a cultist, Rogue Trader adventurer that looks alot like Dr Jones, a repainted gumball machine zombie (I put zits on the back of his arms), and an old Warzone model who'll join my Cobra force.

Till next time, when I hope to have some Ral Partha Romans and Citadel Empire swordsmen done.  I have some fancy red pants early war WW1 Frenchmen in the painting queue.

WWI German Support Weapons

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Last of my German WWI models in the paint queue.  Left to right: first a Granatwerfer or grenade launcher, MG08 machine gun, 76mm light mortar, and another MG08 machine gun
Ve must defend zee UberKnomeFurher!

Next are three more riflemen, an old Ral Partha Ravenloft revolting townfolk, an unbased dog (base said TSR blink dog), and three covered pallets of unknown manufacturer.

Until next time, when I might have some 40K stuff and random minis.

Comic Book Disaster, 2cd to Last German Post, Stupid Building, and a Couple Bits

Greetings Distinguished Observers,

Here's what happens when your water heater explodes and sprays water all over 5,000 comic books.  Sadly they were all in plastic bags and not a single one was ruined.  I'd rather have insurance money than old comics.  I'm so sick of lugging the stupid boxes around, but I'm too miserly to give them away.

Here's 23 WW1 German riflemen running around on a pile of rubble.
there is a lot of poor muzzle control

Here's three Germans armed with Bergmanns.  I only have 8 more Germans to paint, then the force is complete.  I hope they lose their first battle; I dream about painting gray men.

Here's a couple random bits, a cute little piece a LOTR rubble and an exciting manlet.  Manlets paint up alot quicker than people.

Everyone posed for the photo shoot on the piece of terrain I'm calling finished.  This particular building was not well designed by my stupid brain.  There is no way for little men to climb up to the upper levels.

Now, sadly, I must leave you.  I promise more Germans and manlets in the near future.

Love,
Baconfat

Late War Germans, Rubble Junk, Cthulhu Adventurers, Mr. Green, and a Pinch of Citadel Fantasy

    Hello Distinguished Internet Viewer,

I've sloppily slapped together a bunch of a miniature goodness and took pictures.  As always everything  I paint looks shiney thanks to my stupid camera.

First up more boring late war Germans with machine guns.  Thank God there's only 24 rifleman and 4 heavy weapons teams left after these.

Germans carrying various ammo cans/drums.  I like to pretend they're lunch boxes.

Germans with rifles.

I've played Strange Aeons with friends and therefore decided to paint some old Grenadier brand Cthulhu adventurers.  THEY ARE NOT SHINEY IN REAL LIFE.    The second from the right, is maybe a Ral Partha Shadowrun model, the short trench coat with leggings and straps around the forearms are ridiculous.  Last is a Grenadier Innsmouth resident I believe, big mouth and a lack of decent nose.
the guy on the left brought a camera to a demon fight.  I actually use the same model camera for this blog.

Here's my first attempt at making brick road bases out of Milliput.  If you get drunk and squint they look really really good.

Here's a couple old Citadel models.  I forgot to look for a date stamp on the dwarf and I think the human is from their old D&D line.

Lastly some Sculpey clay rubbish:  a battered refrigerator, some garbage bags, a couple stuffed animals, and a couch.  The couch is looks small next to the bald man with dumb looking pistol and brief case, because he's a Mr. Green from my kids' Clue board game and he's about 32 mm high.  I repainted him so they won't catch on to my thievery.
"Mr. Green in the rubbish pile with bolt pistol."

Till next time, when I hope to have more dull gray Germans and rubbish.

Early & Late War Germans, a Mummy, and some Manlets

Hello Fine Viewer,

More exciting WW1 miniatures for your viewing pleasure.

First are some Brigade Games early WW1 Germans.   They are from the BG-WIWG20 and 21 packs, Germans in greatcoats/Picklehaubs Advancing I and II.    Each pack is only $16 and you get eight easy to paint models.

They look very 40Kish admist all the rubble.

Next are some late war Brigade Games Germans.  One up front has a Bergmann SMG and the one in the back is lugging around a heavy MG08/15.

Here's a Mummy, from Reaper miniatures.  He's labeled Sethris of Adiri and sculpted by Bob Ridolfi.

He's running from a little beetle.

A few months ago I tried sculpting furniture out of balsa wood, but recently tried Sculpey Clay.  I like the Sculpey much better, except for having to bake it for 20 minutes to make it hard.  Here's a few pieces; I would have shown you more but the rest are primed white and the photo didn't come out.  They're good enough for inclusion in rubble piles.

Some manlets for archers to hide behind.  The paint job is pretty bad, but good enough for pieces that won't be used very often or at all.  I horde siege equipment to the point that I don't think anyone has a model castle big enough to handle it all.

Next time, more Germans (only about 40 left to paint) and some old Grenadier Call of Cthulhu 6501 Adventurers.
